This year the NAACP celebrates its 100th Anniversary. As we celebrate our Centennial our theme this year is Bold Dreams, Big Victories. This aptly describes the organization’s forward thinking vision and achievements over the last 100 years. The NAACP Its hundreds of thousand volunteers, sung and unsung heroes are responsible for many of the major civil rights victories this country has seen over the last 100 years.
In each decade we have been a transformative force helping our beloved country realize its own promise. We fight daily for equality in Education, Housing, Employment, Racial Profiling, and of course in the political arena. A determined effort for political inclusion was launched last year resulting in the election of the first African American President, Barack Obama and the most Black elected officials since reconstruction. The NAACP has always embraced the impossible. We continue to do voter registration, followed by voter registration and on Election Day voter mobilization. We continue to vote our values and we will always value our vote. Though we have had many victories and should celebrate and embrace them we have a long way to go. As we move forward in this next centennial we set our visions on, making our communities safe. We want law enforcement to not only protect our communities but respect the people in them. We want our justice department to start handing out justice and not to just us. We want our children to get an education that in a quality school where they can blossom to their fullest potential. We want an America where every able bodied worker has a fair chance at employment and advancement. These struggles are not the NAACP alone. We ask that if you do not have a membership take one out today. If you had a membership renew today. It’s time to stop talking about it and be about it. Be part of the new movement for change. In the words of the Late Great, Michael Jackson, change starts with the man in the mirror. We welcome you to join us and be part of our Bold Dreams they will only lead to Big Victories. Sincerely, John Jordan President, NAACP Bucks County, PA |
